In the marble halls of Washington, D.C., power is a carefully constructed facade. For Congressman Cory Mills, a Republican from Florida’s 7th district, that facade is beginning to crumble under the weight of his own alleged actions. The U.S. Army veteran, who rode a wave of MAGA-aligned support into office, is now the protagonist in a drama of his own making, facing a cascade of legal battles and personal accusations that threaten to consume his political career. The controversies are twofold, painting a disturbing picture of a lawmaker’s life unraveling in public view: a high-profile eviction suit and explosive allegations of harassment from multiple women.
The first major crack in the edifice appeared in D.C. Superior Court. Mills is being sued by Bozzuto Management Company for nonpayment of rent on a luxury apartment near Capitol Hill. The lawsuit alleges a simple but stunning fact: the Congressman has not paid rent for five straight months, accumulating a debt that now exceeds $85,000. For a man earning a six-figure salary and tasked with overseeing federal budgets, the inability or refusal to pay his own rent is a glaring issue.
Mills’s explanation, posted on social media, blamed a “malfunctioning payment portal” and claimed he was actively trying to resolve the matter. However, court documents tell a different story, revealing that an initial warning for an $18,229 outstanding balance was issued as early as January 2025. This timeline undermines the notion of a simple technical glitch, raising questions as to why alternative payment methods, like a check or wire transfer, were not used over the course of nearly half a year. The management company is now seeking his eviction and a court order to garnish his future rent payments, ensuring they get paid while the legal process plays out. A September 8 court date is set to decide his immediate future as a D.C. resident.
While the financial dispute is deeply embarrassing, the personal allegations leveled against Mills are profoundly more serious. Lindsey Langston, a formidable figure in her own right as the reigning Miss United States and a Florida Republican state committeewoman, has stepped forward to accuse her ex-boyfriend of a terrifying pattern of abuse. She has filed for a restraining order, citing months of harassment that began after their relationship ended in February 2025.
Langston’s filing describes a campaign of emotional abuse and menacing threats. She alleges that Mills, in a series of texts and messages, swung wildly between attempts at reconciliation and outright intimidation. The threats were allegedly not just directed at her, but at any man she might date in the future. “They better damn well know it’s coming every time,” one alleged message reads, while another warns, “Strap up, cowboy.”
The most shocking claim, however, highlights a stunning level of hypocrisy. Langston alleges that Mills threatened to release explicit videos of them engaging in sexual acts. This accusation is made all the more potent by its timing. On April 28, Congressman Mills voted in favor of the “Take It Down Act,” a new law that makes it a federal crime to threaten or distribute intimate content with the intent to cause distress. Just three weeks later, on the very day the bill was signed into law, Mills allegedly messaged Langston about a male acquaintance of hers, writing, “I can send him a few videos of you as well. Oh, I still have them.” The Columbia County sheriff’s report corroborates that Mills contacted her repeatedly with threats to distribute private recordings.
Mills has denied the allegations and has reportedly tried to pressure Langston into silence, with his legal team warning her against sharing their private communications. But Langston is not alone. Her decision to speak out has created an opening for others. At least three other women, all of whom were previously involved with the Congressman, have shared their own stories with journalists. Their accounts echo Langston’s, describing a man who was manipulative, emotionally volatile, and controlling. Two of the women, in separate interviews, independently used the exact same word to describe him: “psychopath.”
These personal crises are unfolding as Mills faces mounting professional scrutiny. His defense company, PACEM, is reportedly on the brink of liquidation due to foreign debt. At the same time, he is the subject of an investigation by the House Ethics Committee, which is examining his finances for possible violations related to campaign funds and government contracts.
The juxtaposition is jarring. A sitting Congressman who votes on housing policy is being evicted. A lawmaker who voted to criminalize revenge porn is being accused of threatening to do just that. For Langston, the decision to confront a powerful man was a matter of principle. As Miss United States, she feels a profound sense of duty. “I feel a responsibility to be a voice for past, present, and future victims who are being manipulated, threatened, and extorted into silence,” she told reporters. As the legal and ethical investigations close in, Cory Mills is facing a reckoning that will determine not only where he lives, but whether he is fit to hold public office at all.
