Conservative commentator Candace Owens made headlines Monday with an extraordinary claim: that French President Emmanuel Macron personally asked former President Donald Trump to persuade her to stop speaking about Brigitte Macron, alleging the First Lady of France was once a man and that the controversy had reached such a fever pitch it was reportedly stalling international negotiations.

Owens, who shared her story in a lengthy monologue on her show, called it the “craziest” event of her political career. According to Owens, she received an unusual call in February from a close contact who claimed to be relaying a message “from the White House.” The alleged request: that she cease discussing Brigitte Macron in her podcast series, which she had concluded just four days earlier.

“I’m just the messenger,” the friend told her, refusing to identify the original source. But what came next, Owens says, launched her into a vortex of political intrigue involving the highest levels of U.S. and French leadership.

The reason, Owens claims, was shocking. The French President, visiting Washington at the time, allegedly told Trump in a private conversation outside the White House that he was personally distressed over Owens’s repeated references to conspiracy theories about his wife’s identity—including accusations that Brigitte Macron is transgender and was born Jean-Michel Trogneux, a theory widely debunked by fact-checkers.

According to Owens, her friend explained that Macron had taken Trump aside during a bilateral meeting and pleaded with him: “You must get her to stop.” Owens initially laughed off the call, citing freedom of speech and her right to pursue stories of public interest.
