In the high-stakes world of Washington, D.C., where perception is currency, Florida Congressman Cory Mills is discovering that a political career can be just as fragile as it is powerful. The Republican lawmaker and U.S. Army veteran, known for his strong conservative stance, is currently navigating a maelstrom of personal and legal crises that are casting a long, dark shadow over his tenure in office. From an embarrassing and public eviction lawsuit over a luxury D.C. apartment to damning allegations of harassment from multiple women, including a prominent beauty queen, Mills finds his reputation under siege from all sides.
The most immediate and public of his troubles is a legal battle over his housing. Bozzuto Management Company, which manages the upscale apartment building on Maryland Avenue where Mills resides, has filed a lawsuit in D.C. Superior Court. The complaint alleges that the Congressman has failed to pay rent for five consecutive months, from March to July 2025, racking up a staggering debt of over $85,000. For a lawmaker involved in shaping national policy, facing eviction near Capitol Hill is a significant and humiliating blow.
Court records indicate this was not a sudden issue. An earlier notice sent to Mills in January 2025 flagged a past-due balance of more than $18,000 and warned of impending legal action. This history complicates Mills’ public defense. He took to the social media platform X to claim the entire fiasco was the result of a faulty online payment portal, sharing screenshots of his purported attempts to resolve the issue. However, critics and the management company are questioning why a problem that has persisted for over half a year couldn’t be solved with a simple check or wire transfer, methods typically available for such significant transactions. Bozzuto Management is now seeking not only his removal from the property but also a protective order that would force Mills to pay future rent directly to the court, preventing further debt from accumulating as the case proceeds. A court hearing scheduled for September 8 looms large, promising a public airing of the dispute.
As damaging as the eviction suit is, it is arguably overshadowed by a darker set of allegations. Lindsey Langston, the current Miss United States and a Republican state committeewoman in Florida, has sought a restraining order against Mills, her former romantic partner. She details a terrifying campaign of harassment that she says began after their relationship ended in February 2025. Langston alleges that Mills subjected her to threats of violence, emotional abuse, and the ultimate violation: threatening to release intimate videos of them.
Their relationship, which started in November 2021, reportedly imploded when Langston learned through news reports that Mills was involved with another woman. This other woman, Sarah Raviani, had filed her own police report against Mills for assault, though it was later retracted. According to Langston’s filing, this discovery opened the floodgates to a torrent of abusive messages from the Congressman. The communications reportedly alternated between desperate pleas for reconciliation and menacing intimidation. In one chilling text, Mills allegedly warned that any man Langston dated would face his wrath, stating, “They better damn well know it’s coming every time.” Another message simply read, “Strap up, cowboy.”
Perhaps the most damning allegation revolves around Mills’ threat to commit an act he himself had voted to outlaw. On April 28, Mills voted in favor of the “Take It Down Act,” legislation making it a federal crime to distribute or threaten to distribute someone’s private, intimate images to cause them distress. Yet, on May 19, the very day President Trump signed the bill into law, Mills allegedly sent a message to Langston referencing a man she knew: “I can send him a few videos of you as well. Oh, I still have them.” According to the Columbia County sheriff’s report, Mills threatened on numerous occasions to release private recordings, including those of a sexual nature.
Mills has denied the claims, reportedly contacting Langston to pressure her into retracting her statement. His legal team followed up with a warning that sharing their private communications could be a violation of Florida law.
Langston’s story, however, does not exist in a vacuum. Her decision to speak out has seemingly empowered others. Three other women who were also previously involved with Mills have come forward to media outlets, describing strikingly similar patterns of behavior. They recount experiences of manipulation, emotional instability, and thinly veiled threats. Two of these women, speaking independently of one another, used the same word to describe him: “psychopath,” referencing what they saw as his unnerving ability to control and intimidate. The accounts paint a picture of a man who used his wealth and power to control his partners, allegedly flaunting bank bags filled with cash while also pressuring women into uncomfortable sexual situations.
These cascading personal scandals are unfolding against a backdrop of professional and financial scrutiny. The Congressman’s defense company, PACEM, is reportedly facing liquidation over foreign debt. Furthermore, the House Ethics Committee is conducting an official investigation into his conduct following a referral from the Office of Congressional Conduct, probing potential violations related to campaign finance and government contracting.
The contrast between Congressman Mills’ public duties and his alleged private conduct is stark and troubling. He sits in Congress, where he helps craft laws governing the nation, while being sued for failing to meet his own rental obligations. He votes to protect victims of revenge porn while being accused of wielding it as a weapon himself.
For Lindsey Langston, stepping into the spotlight was a difficult choice, one she made feeling a sense of duty. “I worry that I am simply poking the bear,” she admitted, acknowledging the risk of confronting a powerful political figure. But she felt her platform as Miss United States gave her a responsibility to act. “I feel a responsibility to be a voice for past, present, and future victims who are being manipulated, threatened, and extorted into silence,” she stated. As investigations continue and court dates draw near, Cory Mills is facing a trial not just in a court of law, but in the court of public opinion, with his entire political future hanging in the balance.
