Trump Ally Launches Super PAC to Counter Elon Musk’s Third-Party Threat
A close ally of former President Donald Trump has quietly launched a new super PAC designed to challenge Elon Musk’s potential influence in upcoming elections—escalating tensions between two of the Republican Party’s most high-profile power players.
Jim Fischbach, a longtime Trump supporter and former adviser best known for promoting the ultimately unrealized “Doge dividend checks,” has formed the “FSD PAC.” The acronym, famously associated with Tesla’s “Full Self-Driving” software, has been rebranded by Fischbach as “Fully in Support of Donald.”
The PAC’s mission is clear: serve as a direct counterweight to any political maneuvers Musk might undertake, especially if he follows through on his growing threats to back third-party candidates or bankroll Democrats in races where Trump-endorsed Republicans are on the ballot.
“Elon and Trump have been at it for a while,” said Politico’s White House reporter Sophia Cai on The Takeout. “But now Elon Musk is really threatening to start a third-party America Party… and when you’ve got someone with such deep pockets, that threat needs to be taken seriously.”
The PAC’s strategy is to deploy resources in any election Musk becomes involved in, effectively neutralizing his influence. Whether Musk supports independent bids, Democrats, or even non-MAGA Republicans, FSD PAC plans to flood the field with spending aimed at protecting Trump’s endorsed candidates and the MAGA agenda.
Political observers note that Musk’s growing flirtation with third-party politics could disrupt key races during the 2024 presidential election and midterms beyond. Musk has frequently criticized both political parties, and his increasingly libertarian rhetoric has resonated with a segment of disillusioned conservatives and independents.
The creation of FSD PAC signals that Trump’s allies are taking Musk’s ambitions seriously. While it remains unclear whether Musk will officially back a third-party candidate or form a political organization of his own, the Trump camp appears determined to make sure any such moves are met with immediate opposition.
According to CBS News analyst Robert Costa, the clash is more than a test of political funding. It represents a litmus test of influence within the conservative movement—one that could have far-reaching implications for candidate viability and policy priorities.
Costa likened the stakes to those during Trump’s impeachment era. “If you went against President Trump back then… your career was on the line,” Costa said. “If you go against him now, the same rules apply.”
GOP lawmakers face increasing pressure to align with Trump, especially as he demands loyalty on key legislative votes. Lawmakers who stray from the Trump line risk losing financial and institutional support—and potentially facing well-funded primary challenges.
The FSD PAC’s arrival adds another layer of pressure, signaling to Republican incumbents and candidates alike that any alliance with Musk or defiance of Trump could come with consequences.
Meanwhile, Democrats appear poised to capitalize on the internal Republican rift. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has declared that every House Democrat will vote against controversial GOP legislation, and party strategists are eager to tie the current political unrest to future campaign messaging.
“This isn’t just about one bill,” said Cai. “Democrats are planning to tie all of this back to Trump and use it to define Republican chaos heading into the midterms.”
With Trump expected to continue wielding significant influence over the GOP—and Musk increasingly unpredictable in his political engagements—the emergence of the FSD PAC marks a new chapter in the Republican Party’s ongoing identity crisis.
It also sets the stage for a high-stakes battle of billionaires: Trump, the former president and kingmaker of the Republican base, and Musk, the tech mogul whose political affiliations are as unconventional as his business ventures.
One thing is certain: with billions potentially on the table, super PACs in motion, and third-party threats looming, the political landscape heading into 2026 just became even more volatile.
