Over time, she received more than 250 platelet transfusions and 160 blood transfusions.

“She couldn’t walk anymore,” Chrissy says. “She was fluid overloaded, her organs were swollen five times their normal size. It was horrific.”

The medical team prepared her for a bone marrow transplant — her best and only hope.
But just before the procedure, doctors found signs of a possible relapse.
Testing later revealed it wasn’t a relapse at all, but HLH flaring again.

Still, Aria’s tiny body was exhausted.

🧬 ZERO and One Last Chance

By now, Aria qualified for the Zero Childhood Cancer Program (ZERO) — a world-leading genomic research initiative.
The tests revealed her cancer had extremely rare chromosomal abnormalities, meaning her treatment plan had never been enough from the start.

Had those results been available at diagnosis, Aria would have gone straight to transplant — not endured months of toxic chemotherapy.

“We needed to know sooner,” Chrissy says through tears. “If ZERO had been available when she was first diagnosed, she would’ve had a chance.”
